1. What is your favorite website, and why?
-Pandora. I absolutely love music. All kinds of music. Every day. All day. And of all genres. I can go from Florence + The Machine to VNV Nation to John Williams all in one day. This site makes me happy <3
2. What is your biggest fear, and why?
-The death of a loved one or being alone in life. Why? Because I've lost enough people in my life and am not sure how much heartache one can have in that department.
3. What is your new most favorite drink?
-Granville Island Brewing's Lions Winter Ale . Unfortunately, it's not sold in the states :(
4. What is your favorite newly discovered food?
-There's a Thai place Chase and I recently discovered by our apartment that has this amazing Tom Kha Taohu soup. It's tofu and vegetables in a coconut broth - absurdly delicious.
5. What are you doing for the holidays?
-Christmas Eve I will be baking cupcakes and perhaps some sugar cookies and tiramasu. Then Christmas I'm going to celebrate with Chase, his momma, little brother, older brother, and his girlfriend up in Big Bear. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas <3
6. What have you learned in the last year that you can share?
-I've learned that I abhor mathematics on every level possible. It makes me feel physically and emotionally sick. What a life drainer for this non-numerical girl.
-I've learned that life is nothing I thought it would be...and I'm okay with that. As hard as it all is, I'm feeling more like I see a purpose ahead of me. I've not had that in the past.
7. What are you currently studying or learning about?
-In school I just finished all of my general education classes and will now begin my major classes in Business. I learned more algebra than I hope I ever need to know in life. And learned that I love having a creative outlet in my writing.
-At work, I've been learning more about the products we use in the technologically advanced field of home integration systems. It's a fun learning experience.
-I've also been researching more into how to get the business I work for into volunteering opportunities in the community. This can then lead to the corporate office giving grants and/or scholarships to those who need it. Specifically, I'm interested in an organization I've volunteered a lot at in the past and really hoping to get people interested.
8. What goal, if any, have you reached this year?
-My only real goal this year was to stick to my classes and get straight A's...which has been officially accomplished!
9. Name one or two dreams you have for the next few years?
-I'd like to have my associates degree in business management by this time next year. I still need to meet with a counselor to see if it's feasible, but I believe it will be if I can do it financially.
-Another dream is to get more financially stable. This stems off from getting my associates to hopefully advance me in a career and helping me earn more money.
10. Have you done anything this year that is exciting?
-I visited Canada for the first time! It was so beautiful, even with the non-stop rain.
11. Now let’s really dream: describe your dream home.
-I'd love a mix of cozy and cute, but also techy with cool gadgets and games. A library with a comfortable reading chair would be ideal. Even better if it was a loft with a nice sun window. A kitchen meant for a baker. A fireplace. A wraparound porch with a swing. A laundry room. A game room complete with a pool table, theater system, pc gaming area...
12. What’s the latest goofiest thing you’ve done?
-I was singing Christmas carols while shopping at Target today during lunch. In my defense, I didn't realize I was doing it until a lady smiled at me and said I had a sweet voice. LoL.
13. What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done lately?
-See the answer to number 12.
14. Name something that happened in 2011, doesn’t have to be a personal event (could be a world event) that really affected you in some way.
-The 9.1 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that tore apart Japan this past year. Natural disasters are a given every year, but this one had me really scared. It completely shifted the plates below us and I now see earthquakes popping up in areas they've not usually occurred before. Also, a lot of manufacturing companies for large corporations were destroyed or temporarily shut down which had an affect on prices of certain items here in America.
15. Name whatever song is on your mind right now, and why you love it so!
-"Nova" by VNV Nation. This song is breathtakinly beautiful. I recommend listening to it if you haven't. I think my love for this song stemmed from hearing it sung live...it completely transformed the audience. It gave me goosebumps. I had Chase's arms wrapped around me and we swayed back and forth while singing along. It was such an amazing experience. One I will never forget.
16. Best movie you’ve seen lately?
-I recently rented the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie and wow. It held very true to the book and the actors were perfectly casted. I'm interested to see how the Americanized version of the film will play out. I know it's got a lot of hype behind it, but I'd be surprised if it came close to the foreign version.
17. Best t.v. show you’ve seen lately?
-My recent favorites are New Girl and Whitney. I love their quirky personalities and the story line.
18. What do you want to be doing right now instead of sitting at the computer?
-I'd rather be up in the mountains snowboarding.
19. Best place you’ve been lately (could be local)?
-Vancouver, Canada. It rained the whole time, yet took my breath away. The architecture in the downtown district was so different. I wish I had more pictures from the trip.
20. What do you look forward to in the next year?
-Finishing school, growing as a person, seeing where life takes me...

-I won awards in high school for speech and debate and creative writing. I also won an award from my writing class last semester for a unanimous vote for my final piece being the class favorite. The professor asked that I look into the book the school publishes every year of writing pieces.

Thankful: Two
Well, I've already failed at keeping my thanks continuous, but here goes...
Today, I am thankful for the gift of sound. I find so much beauty in the sounds surrounding me. Not just music, but the sound of someones voice, laughter, and nature. I had some song lyrics stuck in my head today, and decided to listen to it on YouTube:

And wow, maybe I'm overly emotional today, but it brought tears to my eyes. The song itself is gorgeous, but something about the sound of nature in the background...it just hit me. Overwhelming euphoria for the world we live in. Yes, there are bad times, but there are wonderful times as well. And I'm trying really hard to focus on the good times instead of dwelling on the bad.

Thankful: One
Last year I attempted to write one thing I was thankful for every day in the month of November. I failed. This month, I will try again. I know this is a little late into the month, but it's never too late to give thanks where it's due :)
Today, I am thankful for my cats. Every morning I am woken up with the incessant meowing from Timone and Luna. And while it does drive me nuts, it also makes me feel wanted and warms my heart. My morning routine is filled with kitty obstacles as they weave in and out of my legs. Luna, the little fur face that she is, even tries to climb up my body on mornings when she is feeling especially needy. I can relate. If I was a little kitty, I would definitely climb up people. It's endearing, right?

Exerpt from my writing class...
Looking down at the crowd below, I realized what a fool I'd been to get myself into this situation. My name's Sophie, but people call me So So. It's a nickname my brother gave me when I was younger for my apathetic behavior. I was never happy, never sad...just "so-so" as he said. It caught on and has stuck since. I'm standing at the top of Tykermon's bridge debating my next step as I look at the crowd forming 100 feet down. I'm 36 years old and feel no younger than 50. Funny how six months can make such a drastic change in one's life. Just three months ago, I found out I was pregnant. This was something my husband and I had been trying to accomplish for two years, and it finally happened. I drove to his work with the pregnancy test in hand ready to celebrate. I walked in on he and his secretary. I filed for a divorce the next day.
I'm running through my memory book of thoughts as camera flashes click up at me. Click-I remember when I first met my husband. That gaze across a bar that held just a little longer than most. His pompous stride crossing the room where his eyes never left mine. It wasn't love at first sight, not the slightest. It was all lust. But what we thought was a fling ended up turning into so much more. We had chemistry, a spark that never did die out. Click-Our wedding day. We had gardenias and tiki torches for decoration along a small patch of the beach. Our guests gathered standing. It was a short ceremony with a lot of dancing afterward. The perfect wedding. Click-The first night in our apartment. It was small, but cozy. We had no furniture, so we set a tent up in the living room and camped. We ended up making s'mores on the stove top and telling ghost stories with a flashlight to our faces. The night ended in shadow puppets and sex. Click-Me walking in on my husband with her. So what happened? When did I stop being enough for him? And why now? Why, when we were so close to completing our family?
This morning I awoke to blood surrounding me. I had miscarried. I knew this was a possibility. My doctor had warned me, but I never thought it would happen to me. No one ever thinks it will be them, and then they become the statistic. Another number added to the poll. What was there to live for now?
All around me I listen to the faint sounds of sirens and the talking below me that sound like echoed whispers. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I am becoming nothing. A void is filling me, consuming me whole. What used to fill me, a living being, has left me empty.

Ten
1. I couldn't find my one and only favorite pen at work today. It wasn't until about 10 pm at home that I realized at some point in the day I had used it to hold a bun in my hair.
2. I am officially registered for a math course and creative writing course this semester. I am really excited that I was able to pick up another class, but still completely bummed that I wasn't qualified for financial aid this semester. Good bye money. Hello ramen noodles.
3. School starts in just 2 weeks. AHHH.
4. You know that bright red color Hayley from Paramore has had her hair in the past? I want my hair that color. Real bad like.
5. I'm itching for another tattoo, but I can't justify spending the money on it considering how broke I am. And how much debt I have to pay off.
6. I have a strange obsession with dark wood wicker baskets.
7. I like saying the word 'wicker'.
8. It's almost the end of summer. My favorite season is just around the corner!
9. After getting home from the gym this past weekend, I decided to try on a pair of jeans that I've not fit into for years. They fit. It was a struggle, but I won and wore them for the remainder of the day.
10. I celebrated by eating nachos. I'm bad at the losing weight game.

Nights like these
Nights like tonight...make me gloriously happy. I'm in my cozy gray v-neck tee, black yoga pants and barefoot. I've got the front door open for a light breeze. The babies are switching off cuddling in my lap, purring into the crook of my arm. A glass of wine by my side and the slight flicker of candles surrounding me. I am being carried away to a different world - taken by music. Tonight's vocal infatuation is brought to you by Priscilla Ahn.
Ahn's voice reminds me of A Fine Frenzy's singer, Aliso Sudol mixed with another of my favorite singers, Lisa Donnelly. It's quite captivating, really. My favorite I've heard thus far is called "Dream". /sigh

Remembering
This week has been hard for different reasons, but the main one being an approaching date. Well, a couple of approaching dates to be quite honest.
This coming up week will be the one year mark of James' passing. I miss him. A lot. I still talk with a few of his friends I met at his services - all great people and I feel honored to have them in my life now. Last week I messaged Mike and Justin, two close friends of James, to see if they would be interested in going to James' site this coming up Saturday the 18th. They both said yes, and I've also extended that invitation to other friends and family. We now have a small group of loved ones set for the memorial. I know it will be hard, but am happy to have such caring people to go with who remember James in such high respects as I do.
The other date...the one that gets me every year...is father's day. I miss my dad. It's weird-I always thought that the years would pass and I would miss him less, but it seems as though the opposite is happening. I am missing him more and hating that he is gone. I envy those that have their dads still - and I know that may sound bad. But I see so many who have these great father figures in their life, and take them for granted and I want to tell them just how lucky they are to have them. But I know human nature, and how we take for granted things that we shouldn't.

Moving
A couple months ago my mom bought me a domain. Jealous? No? Okay, fine. Anyways...getting back on track. I now have a website for random junk I see around the internet. I also keep my Photo of the Day and Song of the Day stuff on there instead of bombarding Facebook with my boring life. It's a work in progress. I am attempting to learn coding and all that jazz to make it look like I know what I'm doing. But don't let it fool you. Because I don't. And because I am easily distrac----huh?
In other news...
I am FINALLY done with this semester. It seemed extra long and excruciating. I HATE math. With a burning raging passion that makes me want to go throw rocks and stuff. However, I managed to get straight As this semester and make Dean's List. Not that it matters since I can't get financial aid any more. The California school systems have gone to complete and utter shit. I really don't know why I stay in the state. I guess out of comfort and the fear of failing somewhere else? Bah.
I still have cats living on my patio. And it's becoming a nuisance. I think I talked my landlord into lowering my rent $50 or so for the month since I've not slept a whole night through. I just have the momma, dad and two kittens left. I told him that if he doesn't get them by this weekend that I'll be tearing my fence down. And I'm not kidding. I have some DIY projects I'd like to work on and can't without my patio since some of it includes planting and building junk. Cross fingers!

Another day in the life of...
Wow. What a Monday already. So far:
The garage I just got on Saturday locked my car in it this morning. Still not sure if it was the garage itself, or the opener. I finally managed to pry the danged thing open, but couldn't get it closed afterward. I then had to call emergency maintenance, since I didn't want to leave it open with a neighbor's car still in its spot.
Fast forward to me at work...
I'm half an hour late and have missed my Monday Morning Meeting at the company. I start to sort the mail to pass out and a spider *insert disgusting shiver here* crawled out from between some pieces of mail and onto my hand. I may have let out a screech. Or a scream. Or a blood curdling psycho killer guttural AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Then, I smacked it with my hand and it died and guts went places I'd rather not discuss. I then proceeded to scrub my hands for 5 minutes until they were red and raw.
Fast forward to me back at my desk...
I pass out the mail. Get my coffee on, because lord knows I need it after the morning thus far. I then sit down at my desk and grab my purse to get my chap-stick. And, well, enter another scream here. ANOTHER danged spider. This one IN my person. Repeat the same steps as before listed ^up^ ^there^.
It's only 8:55 folks. Let's see what else will happen on this fine Monday.

Awe Inspiring

This video is so breathtaking and makes me really appreciate the beauty of the world we live in. He also has more linked on the side that are just as inspiring.
It's funny how I view life. I don't so much see the beauty of the people surrounding me, though I do always try to see the good. But as a whole, we mess up the beauty that surrounds us with such pettiness.
I love videos like this, and being surrounded by nature in this sense because everything else in life falls away. All that matters is in that moment. The silence. The painfully beautiful world that we live in, that we take for granted and destroy.

Dream
I had a scary dream last night...one of those that felt real.
I woke up to the sounds of explosions. Repetitive booming noises in the distance. I was in bed with Chase in a hotel lobby with a large glass window looming to the side of us. There was a pool in front of the glass window, where I could see two silhouettes swimming in circles.
Around us in the lobby were other people on beds sleeping. I was the only one awake.
Beyond the pool in the distance, I could see smoke clouds billowing up. It was dawn, but the sky was filled with a yellowish orange hue making it almost impossible to pinpoint the time.
Then, I saw what was causing the scene. Fire balls were coming from something flying above, but the thick smoke masked what was behind the attack.
I turned to Chase to wake him up, but all of a sudden everyone around me was awake. He had his arm around me and I asked him what was going on. He said that we had made them very angry. I didn't understand what he meant by that, but just then, the attacks got closer. A ball of fire hit the two figures in the pool. But they kept swimming, seemingly uninjured.
All around me, people were staring, but no noise. The sounds of the explosions were getting closer as were the smoke clouds.
It went on like this, but we never did get hit.
I've not had a dream like this in a long time.

Blood Work Results
Well folks, I got the results from my blood work - super fast might I add!
It looks as though my red blood cells are pretty low, which surprises me since I already take iron supplements. But, the doctor also noted that this is probably the reason I am getting so many more tachycardia attacks. The lack of red blood cells to carry oxygen to my heart is making it irregular.
Another side affect is depression, fatigue...yadda yadda.
I have another doctor's appointment set up for Wednesday of this week. The doctor wants to do some tests on my heart. Hook me up while on a treadmill to see what happens.

Retaliation
I never wanted to be that person. The person that, when hurt by a loved one, would hurt them back in retaliation. But here I am in a position where I have done just that. It makes me feel awful. And sick to my stomach.
To every story between two people, there are two sides. And each side deserves a fair say and a just way of handling it.
I wish I could take back things that I've said. I don't regret much, but this much I do.
Some may have noticed that I deactivated my Facebook. I did this because I was utilizing it in the wrong way. I'll be back, but for now...let's just say I'm on hiatus.

Thursday
This morning I...
Pressed snooze about two dozen times before getting out of bed.
Turned the sink on for the meowing cats to get their water fiend on.
Realized how badly I need to do laundry.
Drove to work listening to the AM station covering the newest earthquake in Japan.
Organized more supplies, cabinets and desk areas at work.
Had a coughing fit that had me in tears.
Ate a handful of cough drops.
Found chocolate covered strawberries left over from last night's event at work and called the other two women at the company for an indulging fest in the kitchen for a quick minute.
Got frustrated at Course Compass for the second day in a row that I haven't been able to access my homework assignments.
Saw the people protesting outside of Planned Parenthood once again - now with more graphic posters in hand.

Cupcake Epidemic of 2011
Last week I baked cupcakes. A LOT of cupcakes. On a lot of different days. In a lot of different ways. Chocolate cupcakes. Devil's food cupcakes. Best chocolate cake EVER cupcakes. Strawberry cupcakes. Cappuccino cupcakes. Black bottom cream cheese cupcakes. Oh, how do I count the ways? And that doesn't even include the massive amounts of frosting that were whipped, blended and spread.
Only half of this list were created from scratch - but I have come to the conclusion that homemade frosting is definitely worth the effort for the end result. Scrumdidliumptious!
Yesterday I finally got my kitchen back in order. It was time...my poor plates were buried and couldn't breath. The silverware were fending for their lives falling into the disposal. I felt bad and a bit sickened by the whole ordeal. I'm sorry and I promise to treat you better, oh bake ware of mine.
But let me just say this - I LOVE to bake. A lot of my coworkers said that my cupcakes were the best they had ever had. /Pats myself on the back. Hopefully I can add some more bake ware to my collection. I don't even have a cookie sheet at this point...HA! In due time though!

A Day In The Life Of...
Here are just a few shots from today:
I got this awesome nail polish at the new 99 cent store that opened by my work.
Timone was pretty devastated last night when the suitcase of doom was pulled out. He began to pace in front of it meowing. Poor guy.
I came home to find this gem of a poster hanging with some tape. I love the placement. It really adds that pop of color to my room! Oh, Chase. He cracks me up.
Where do I begin? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! That about sums it up. It smells amazing. I can't stop sniffing my hair! And for a pretty decent price too. Oh, and bonus - paraben free!
I love watching the shadows dance across the shades in the lobby at work.

The ABCs of Kristal
Adorkable. It's my self-proclaimed nickname. And I fully believe that I am. Do you know me?
Believer. A believer in love. In hope. In many areas of life.
Creative. I have a lot of ideas-most of which I don't act on, but they are there.
Diligent. I get stuff done when it needs to be done. I do so in a very organized manner.
Entertaining. Not for anyone else so much, but for me. I am great at entertaining myself. I could laugh at my antics for days. Months. Years. And then some.
Frisky. My cats and I relate a lot because of this. I like to play. Lots. And play some more. I think I wear them out.
Grateful. For all that I have in life.
Hungry. I love food. It's my favorite. I want it all the time. My inner fat girl is slowly escaping!
Indecisive. Ask me what I want for lunch. Or dinner. Or what to do. I'd rather just go with the flow most of the time than make the decisions.
Jittery. I'm constantly tapping my fingers, bouncing my feet, biting on my lip, doing little dances...It's a problem.
Kooky. You know me, right? Nuff said.
Loyal. I am very loyal to the ones I love. I'm like man's best friend never leaving their side. Like Lassie continuously saving Timmy from the well.
Mischievous. I like to scheme. Most of the time, I don't follow through with my outlandish ideas...but sometimes...I just can't help myself.
Nerd. Not like the candy. Like...I wear glasses, game, do puzzles for fun, read for fun...that sorta thing.
OCD. I mostly laugh it off, but it exists. And it is hard to deal with sometimes.
People-watcher. Oh, I could do this for a whole day. Observe everyone around me. It's pretty fascinating stuff.
Quirky. For instance: When I'm walking, I almost always count my steps. And will play little games with myself. If I can get to that light pole in this many steps, then I will be married in the next year. Stuff like that.
Reclusive. I love being at home in my comfort zone. I'm not one for going out to bars and partying.
Swanky. I really like this word. And wanted to use it. So that's all for that.
Thoughtful. It's fun doing things out of the blue for people. It makes my heart swell.
Uterus. I have one. But am not one. I just couldn't think of anything.

Whimsy. I sometimes make blanket and sheet forts in my living room and do homework underneath.

Frisky. My cats and I relate a lot because of this. I like to play. Lots. And play some more. I think I wear them out.
Grateful. For all that I have in life.
Hungry. I love food. It's my favorite. I want it all the time. My inner fat girl is slowly escaping!
Indecisive. Ask me what I want for lunch. Or dinner. Or what to do. I'd rather just go with the flow most of the time than make the decisions.
Jittery. I'm constantly tapping my fingers, bouncing my feet, biting on my lip, doing little dances...It's a problem.
Kooky. You know me, right? Nuff said.
Loyal. I am very loyal to the ones I love. I'm like man's best friend never leaving their side. Like Lassie continuously saving Timmy from the well.
Mischievous. I like to scheme. Most of the time, I don't follow through with my outlandish ideas...but sometimes...I just can't help myself.
Nerd. Not like the candy. Like...I wear glasses, game, do puzzles for fun, read for fun...that sorta thing.
OCD. I mostly laugh it off, but it exists. And it is hard to deal with sometimes.
People-watcher. Oh, I could do this for a whole day. Observe everyone around me. It's pretty fascinating stuff.
Quirky. For instance: When I'm walking, I almost always count my steps. And will play little games with myself. If I can get to that light pole in this many steps, then I will be married in the next year. Stuff like that.
Reclusive. I love being at home in my comfort zone. I'm not one for going out to bars and partying.
Swanky. I really like this word. And wanted to use it. So that's all for that.
Thoughtful. It's fun doing things out of the blue for people. It makes my heart swell.
Uterus. I have one. But am not one. I just couldn't think of anything.
Vagina. Again, I have one. But am not one.
Whimsy. I sometimes make blanket and sheet forts in my living room and do homework underneath.
Xylophonist. When I was little I played the xylophone at school. I was the best there was. People from all across the countries came to see me play. *Note-this may be an over exaggeration of true events.
Youthful. I am only a quarter of a century old, after all.
Zealous. Mostly about interior decoration. And some other stuff. But I won't go into that.
Sixth Sense
Ever since I was younger I have had a sixth sense that has kicked in from time to time. Odd feelings of unknown presences around me, dreams predicting occurrences in my life and a very rare psychic ability that has now possibly saved me twice.
The first time it has saved me was when I was in my teens dating Jeff. We were on the freeway, he driving his Accord. I remember being extremely tired and dozed off. After what felt like a couple of seconds, a vision came to me that startled me awake. I had seen a huge semi truck swerve into our lane crashing into us. My heart was beating. I was shaking. Upon gaining composure, I looked up to see a semi truck much like the one I had just seen in my "dream". I asked Jeff to please change lanes and he did so without question. Not a second later, that semi truck swerved into the lane we had previously been in. I could feel the air in the car stiffen.
Today, something similar happened and I haven't been able to slow my heart since. (Tachycardia is NOT helping this situation) I was heading back to work from my lunch break this afternoon when it hit me. I was driving on the freeway when I got a dull headache. A truck had just merged in front of me - in the back a lawn mower. All of a sudden I got a huge wave of fear and blinked. In the blink I had a vision of said lawn mower flying out of the truck and into my window. I quickly changed lanes and pulled to the shoulder with my hazards on. A few seconds later, I saw the truck slam on his brakes from traffic coming to a stop. The lawn mower flew out of the back of his truck. Luckily no one was behind him.
What does it even mean?!

Question
Ultimately, I want to dedicate my blog to one thing specifically so that I can have more focus and motivation to keep it updated. However, what this one thing is...I haven't a clue.
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he suggested that I have a website with multiple tabs instead with different areas I'd like to explore. My main interests: cooking, designing, gaming, ramblings and photography.
To clarify, I am in no way a professional in any of the above areas. Well, maybe a professional rambler...I could ramble your ear off, but I digress.
I'm not sure what I'll end up doing. But here's a pretty picture I took yesterday of my newest puzzle and I really like it <3

Smile
Because I can think of so many things that keep me stressed out, I will jot down a few items that keep my smiling as of late.
1. The kitties. Now, we'll forget that Luna woke momma up at 5 am this morning with the sound of breaking glass from my favorite candle. These two cats really do complete me. I love their cuddles and company.
2. Chase. The love of my life. Yes, things are complicated between us. But at the end of the day he is still my best friend and someone I can count on.
3. Photography. This past weekend Chase and I played with his new Rebel. It was a lot of fun. We staged some photo shoots of candles in my apartment.
4. Food. I have been trying to cook every meal as opposed to eating out...and I've got to say, I do feel really great about it. I'm by no means a "fancy cook". I keep it simple but use a lot of spices and black pepper. Black pepper is a must.
5. Health. I am finally over the pneumonia! Hallelujah! I am still more tired than normal, but the doctor assured me that this was normal.
6. Core Secrets. I used to do these work out videos a couple of years back and had forgotten about them. But moving has a way of bringing things to your attention and I'm back at it. They are shorter videos that focus on using your core muscles for each exercise done. It's great. I am sore.
7. School. It's hard. I find it hard to motivate myself to keep going. But at the end of every week that I have accomplished, I feel good. I don't know what I'm working toward at this point. But I am learning in the process...
8. Puzzles. I love them. It's an old hobby of mine that is making a comeback. Now, if only libraries rented them out!
9. DIY. Yes, that's right. I like to do it myself. Little projects around the house that is. It's fun having my own place to decorate and make home.
10. Dark chocolate peanut butter cups. Nuff said.

One Year Later
I posted this survey one year ago. One year later...

2. Have you learned anything new lately?
Today: I'm back in school learning a lot. I've learned more about biological anthropology, history of theatre, algebra, and am also teaching myself sign language slowly.
Last Year: I have been watching online classes on Excel trying to master it. There are so many features that make the work I’ve been doing so much easier and more efficient.
3. Pretend it’s a cool fall evening. What’s on your agenda for tonight?
Today: Open the windows for a nice fall breeze to flow into my apartment, make some hot cocoa, work on a puzzle and watch a movie.
Last Year: Usually, I cuddle up with the kitties on the reclining chair and read a book.
4. Where would you like to visit someday?
Today: Fiji, Europe, Jamaica, Ireland, Germany...
Last Year: Fiji! It looks beautiful; I would love to see the lush landscapes and enjoy the tropics.
5. Where do you live, and why do you like it?
Today: I live in a quaint little apartment in Orange, CA. I like it because it's mine and it's home. The bathroom is very vintage looking and huge. The kitchen has wooden counter tops that are fun. And there are some really unique characteristics throughout the apartment that I just love.
Last Year: I live in Santa Ana, CA and while I don’t necessarily like the city I live in, I love my apartment. It’s home and I always feel warm and cozy with the kitties and Chase.
6. Name something that has moved you lately.
Today: I read a news article today about a woman who was walking with her young son. As they were waiting for a cross walk, the mother saw a dog in the middle of oncoming traffic. She went to rescue it and was killed by a driver who ran a red light. Her son witnessed the whole thing. So tragic.
Last Year: I watched this video recently about a motivational speaker who has no arms or legs – Nick Vujicic – and it was truly inspirational. We should never take what we have for granted.
7. What do you do with your time, mostly?
Today: I work full time. Once home, I work on homework and reading for classes. Time not spent doing these two things have recently been working on puzzles, watching Roswell, reading, decorating, napping and playing with the kitties.
Last Year: The majority of my time is spent working, but when I’m not working I am playing WoW, reading, or out with friends. Recently, my evenings have been filled with the show True Blood. I am hooked!
8. What are your past-times and hobbies and interests?
Today: I enjoy reading, putting together puzzles, putting together model cars, WoW (though I gave my account to a friend for a while so it doesn't distract me from school), decorating, writing and watching movies.
Last Year: WoW, designing, daydreaming, reading, writing, watching movies or television, yoga or pilates, going to the beach, and watching Hunter.
9. If you had 50 dollars and had everything you needed, how would you spend that money?
Today: All you can eat sushi dinner and a movie.
Last Year: I would take Chase and I out on a date.
10. You are hosting a party with a few close friends. What would you serve?
Today: Wine, cheese, crackers, fruit and chocolate.
Last Year: Oh, that’s such a hard question! I love BBQs, so I would opt to do a lot of meats and vegetables grilled. Then have sweet tea and fresh lemonade.
11. What kind of conversations do you love?
Today: Ones that make me think. Ones that are completely off the wall and non-sequittor.
Last Year: I love random conversations. Ones that come out of nowhere but end up in fits of laughter.
12. Name a favorite teenage memory.
Today: I met Jessica Belanger when I was in middle school. She and I both had long hair, glasses, brown eyes, and the same body shape and height. People began to sing the "Sister, Sister" song whenever they saw us. We soon began to convince everyone that we were cousins - even teachers. It was a riot. We decided to go to Disneyland for fun one day and met at the park...only to find that we were wearing the exact same outfit. Blue jeans, gray sweatshirts and Converse. Totally unintentional, but hilarious nonetheless. I have pictures of us from that day outside the park in a silly pose and another of us with Tarzan.
Last Year: When I was in high school, my friends and I invented this game called “Tag”. My friends had all graduated college and had cars, so one night out of bored as we were sitting outside of Natales (our coffee shop hangout) we thought up a game of tag using cars. We used a map to set the boundaries that we had to stay in while driving. Each car had two people in it…the driver and the navigator (which was always me as I didn’t drive). We would then all start in the same spot and give a one minute to start to each car for them to go out. The goal was to get 2 feet from one of the cars and flash your headlights twice. Tag, they’re it. It was soooo much fun.
13. Name a favorite childhood memory.
Today: Pretending to be Men In Black with my cousin, Katie. We would get so into it; Wear all black clothes, black sunglasses and walk around with our hands as guns singing and slinking along walls.
Last Year: Any childhood memory at Grandma and Grandpa’s Blue house.
14. Name a favorite memory about someone in your family.
Today: When my cousin Rachel was younger, she was a riot. She was so full of energy and life. She was an avid horse fan...collecting anything and everything horse related. I remember she used to set up little courses for her to run around in the living room and would pretend to be a horse.
Last Year: Fishing with dad and Sam.
15. What are you looking forward to?
Today: I am looking forward to...a weekend of nothing coming up. To one of my courses at school being close to finished. To a Vegas trip in March for a friend's bachelorette party. To some lights that my cousin Kate got for me as a housewarming present to arrive. To family visiting later this year.
Last Year: Summer trips to the river and Idyllwild, seeing family for the holidays, Martha and Jeff’s visit to CA in October…lots of stuff!
16. Have you acquired anything interesting lately?
Today: I have acquired an outdoor cat of sorts. The apartment I moved into has a cat that is always on my back patio. I feel so bad for the poor thing. It seems like it either used to live at my apartment and the owners left it, or it just likes it for the boxes I have set up from my unpacking.
Last Year: My Aunt Marcie made me the most awesome blanket ever! It’s my new cuddling blanket when I can pull it away from Timone.
17. Where do you picture yourself 10 years from now? (Favorite Dad question!)
Today: I really hate this question. At this point, I can honestly say I have no idea.
Last Year: I have a really hard time answering these types of questions, because I honestly don’t know. I would like to have graduated from college, or at least have some kind of degree. Maybe married with a kid…
18. What is your view of heaven?
Always: I think it’s what you want it to be. What you dream of to be your perfect place and pure happiness and serenity…that’s heaven in my eyes

Always: Grilled or lightly seasoned and pan cooked with some EVOO.

Always: The way I view myself. My insecurity.

Surreal
I got a new car! But wait, let me start at the beginning.
It all started yesterday. I wanted to run some errands and get some groceries at Trader Joes to last me the upcoming week. I got in my car and started to drive, but my car had other plans. At about 10 mph, it felt as though I was stuck in 1st gear and I was already at 40 rpms. I tried going faster to see if Ty (my car) would "shift" so to speak, but in just 5 mph my car jumped to 60 rpms. I got really scared at the sounds it was making. In the past as I'd drive, sometimes my car would make jerky motions as if I was driving a stick shift and switching gears, but I attributed it to my cars funkiness. I was wrong. I just barely made it around the neighborhood to park. I tried it again later in the evening, but it was still acting up. The transmission fluid had recently been filled along with my oil change, so I knew it wasn't that. And no leaks were apparent.
I went inside to Google my issues and found multiple people on VW forums siting the same experiences - all whose transmissions blew. This car...it just doesn't like to work. I started crying, knowing that I couldn't afford to fix yet another issue with Ty. I was at a loss.
Shandra and her parents had just left for the market when all of this had happened. When they got home, her dad, Larry, told me he would go talk to his neighbor friend, Gary who was a shop manager for a dealership. A couple minutes later he came back and told me to go over and talk to Gary with him. He was so helpful. Got me on the line with someone at the dealership and they input my information into the system and ran a credit check. Gary then asked if I could go with him to work this morning to see if we could find a car I could afford. I was hesitant because of money issues. But at the very least he said he could get me a rental car free for a couple of days. I agreed and he picked me up early this a.m.
We arrived at the dealership and I tested a bunch of different cars, but ended up going with a 2010 Nissan Sentra. I love it <3 It's much roomier than my Jetta and even has a trunk that opens! Neat!
It all started yesterday. I wanted to run some errands and get some groceries at Trader Joes to last me the upcoming week. I got in my car and started to drive, but my car had other plans. At about 10 mph, it felt as though I was stuck in 1st gear and I was already at 40 rpms. I tried going faster to see if Ty (my car) would "shift" so to speak, but in just 5 mph my car jumped to 60 rpms. I got really scared at the sounds it was making. In the past as I'd drive, sometimes my car would make jerky motions as if I was driving a stick shift and switching gears, but I attributed it to my cars funkiness. I was wrong. I just barely made it around the neighborhood to park. I tried it again later in the evening, but it was still acting up.
