Halloween Survey

1. Write the first paragraph of a scary story you would tell around the campfire.
My favorite story from "Are You Afraid of the Dark" A long time ago there was a little girl who had a green ribbon around her neck. One day she went to school and met a boy named Jim. Jim sat behind her in class and noticed the ribbon under her pig tails. "Why do you wear that ribbon around your neck?" he asked. Someday I'll tell you, she promised. When they were teenagers, Jim asked the girl on a date. While they were drinking frappes, Jim asked again, "why do you wear that green ribbon around your neck?” She laughed nervously and said, "Well maybe if we ever get married I'll tell you." Jim fell in love with the girl and they got married. In bed their first night, the only thing his new wife wouldn't take off was the ribbon and he asked, “Okay, we're married now...why do you wear that ribbon on your neck!" She said, "I'll tell you if we ever have kids." After they had a boy and a girl, Jim asked again,"Please, please, please, WHY DO YOU WEAR THAT RIBBON AROUND YOUR NECK?!?!" She said, if you love me, you'll drop it for now, some day I'll tell you." So he dropped it. Just accepted the fact that his wife wore a mysterious ribbon around her neck all the time. They got old together, then the woman got very sick, went to the hospital, and the doctor said she was going to die. Her distraught husband sat by her side for days, and finally said, please, tell me now, why do you have that ribbon around your neck? In a croaky voice she said, okay, I'll tell you, take it off now." He pulled the bow loose and her head fell off.
2. What is the weirdest unexplained event that has happened to you?
Every once in a while I get premonitions. The first time it happened I was dating a guy named Jeff. We were in his car driving on the freeway and I fell asleep. While asleep, I had an out of body experience where I saw a semi-truck swerve into our lane and hit us, causing a large crash. I woke and saw the same semi-truck to the right of our lane and told Jeff to move over a lane. He did and we watched as the semi swerved into our lane. It's happened a few times since as well and saved my butt. I've not always been asleep, but it always feels like an out of body experience.
3. What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Or are you too old for that?
I was given a sailor costume by a friend who didn't want to use it - so sailor I will be! Ahoy!
4. What is your favorite costume from the past?
Halloween is my favorite holiday, so it's hard to narrow down which costume is my favorite. I really enjoyed being Minnie Mouse and also an Army Nurse from the 40s.
5. What or who would you like to dress up are afraid you couldn’t pull it off?
Daria.
6. Make up a game that people could play at Halloween. No cheating and going to the internet.
Candy eating contest - whoever vomits first loses!
7. Name a favorite Halloween memory.
The first and only person I've ever hit was on Halloween at a party I threw. I found my friend's boyfriend trying to kiss one of my friends, so I went up to him and slapped him across the face. He didn't see it coming. My hand stung. Thank you, alcohol.
8. What is the mythical monster that most freaks you out?
From the X-Files: The Flukeman, a being born in a "soup" of radioactive sewage from Chernobyl, is a tapeworm-like humanoid that lived in sewers. It bit humans and injected small flukes, which eventually kill their hosts. Mulder investigated its attacks, finding the creature in a sewage treatment plant. The creature escaped and returned to the sewers, where Mulder seemingly killed it by slicing it in half. The episode's conclusion, however, shows that the Flukeman continues to live. In a later episode, a newspaper shows a drawing of the Flukeman on the cover, the caption stating that it ended up in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
9. What is your scariest memory (doesn’t have to be from Halloween).
Finding out I had melanoma cancer.
10. Write a Halloween haiku (5-7-5 syllables).
Scarecrows in the night Cackling under the moonlight Trick or treat he moans
11. What are you going to do this Halloween?
I usually take Hunter trick or treating - we'll see if he's too old this year.
12. What kind of candy do you want in your trick-or-treat bag?
I love Starburst and Skittles.
13. What is your favorite Halloween decoration?
A friend of mine bought me a Nightmare Before Christmas snow globe with Jack Skellington two-faced. I love it. And candles...definitely candles.
14. What was the best jack-o-lantern carving you ever did?
Probably a cat sitting on a fence under the moon.
15. Has anything random or odd ever happened to you during the Halloween season?
Hmm, not that I can recall, really.
16. Have you ever been to a real haunted house?
Yes! San Diego has a haunted house tour of real haunted houses and hotels in the area. I have felt the presence and seen things in a few of the houses.
17. Have you ever taken part in destructive activities on Halloween?
Nope.
18. Give us your secret, special recipe that you make in the fall.
The only special recipes I make during Halloween are Pumpkin Spice Muffins from Trader Joe's topped with a cream cheese and cinnamon frosting...or pumpkin pie with the recipe off the back of the can. (I am SUPER fancy)
19. What is your favorite scary movie or book?
I like anything Stephen King or Dean Koontz. I also used to love the RL Stine Goosebump series. My all time favorite scary book is Tommyknockers. I remember reading it when I was younger and an earthquake happened during the climax of the book. Scared the crap out of me!
20. Finally, what would you do with 200 pumpkin seeds?
Lightly season and bake them. Then, stuff my face full.
