Copy Kat

It's a slow morning at work, so blogging seemed like a good option to waste away the next hour until lunch. Following my cousin's blog, here are some things I'm happy about today:

*It's cold outside, and has been for the past week. I love how refreshing it feels when I walk around outside. How the crisp air bites at my skin, making it tingle. It makes me long for the mountains even more! I'm hoping we have this weather until Christmas.

*My computer at work hasn't crashed or had any problems today. This is a humongous feat, considering for the past month I've had several problems each day.

*Today is my one month anniversary of working at my new job. And I still love it-and the people.

*I woke up to Timone cuddled up next to my neck this morning, purring away. And looked over to see that Luna was curled up under the blankets with Chase. It was precious.

*Because it's been colder here, I've been able to wear my scarves, hats, and mittens. Yes, mittens. Why? Because I can.

*Bryan is no longer in the hospital.

*Tomorrow is my company Christmas party and my annual Christmas sleepover at Ren's house!

*Saturday is my friends' annual Secret Santa/White Elephant party. Ugly sweaters and socks here I come!

*My outfit is super coordinated and cute today.

*A guy at work has tangerine trees in his backyard, and brought in a bag full. YUM!

Treasure Hunting

1. How do you define honesty?

Honesty is simply telling the truth no matter what.

2. What is your biggest fear or worry?

Losing the people I love.

3. What is the main thing that makes you unique?

I have potential to be the crazy cat lady next door.

4. If you had to evacuate your house immediately, what is the one thing you would grab on the way out?

Assuming Chase, Timone, and Luna are already evacuating, I would grab my computer. It has music, pictures, and writing on it that I wouldn't want to lose.

5. What facial expression or movement do you do when you are lying?

I'm not sure.

6. What is the oldest item you own?

I don't own anything that I've had for a significantly long time, really. The only thing that comes to mind is a Shel Silverstein book "Where The Sidewalk Ends."

7. If someone was to give you one gift, money is no object, what would you want to receive?

A cottage style house on the beach.

8. What does it mean to have courage?

To face something you don't necessarily want to face because you're afraid of failure, but taking it on anyways.

9. Do you like your name?

It's not my favorite, but it's not awful either.

10. Do you have a nickname? What is it?

Chase calls me Adorkable and some people call me Kris or Krissie.

11. If you could have any special magic, what would it be?

Teleportation. It would be great to have the ability to freely roam.

12. If you had three wishes, what would you wish?

For my loved ones to remain healthy, financial stability for myself and those surrounding me, and to be able to have a "meeting house" where all the family could all see each other.

13. What is your greatest strength?

Loyalty.

14. What is your worst weakness?

Procrastination.

15. If you could predict the future, what would you do with that knowledge?

I wouldn't want that kind of knowledge. It would drive me crazy!

16. Is your favorite time the past, present or the future?

The present.

17. Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

Married to Chase with one or two kids...more than that I couldn't say.

18. Who is the one person that helped to make you who you are today?

In all honesty I think Jeff Chung. He was my first love and was such an amazing person in general. Most people have such horrible experiences with past loves that have destroyed their faith and trust in men and people in general. I never went through this because I had such a great relationship with Jeff. He, and his family for that matter, were always there for me and helped get me to where and to who I am today.

19. If you were punished for a crime, what type of punishment would you choose?

I would choose solitary confinement with the right to have books, pictures, and a journal.

20. Describe a time you got into trouble.

When I was attending ANHS I decided to ditch one day with some friends because they were done with classes at lunch. At the time the school was having a lot of issues with people ditching, so we took extra precautions and I hid in the trunk of the car. For some odd reason that day, the "patrol" asked Jeff to open his trunk and I was caught huddled in a ball. I was sent to the principal's office.

21. What do you do when you first wake up in the morning?

Roll over and cuddle with Chase and the kitties. We start our morning routine by talking and playing with the little ones.

22. What makes you a good person?

I care and feel too much.

23. What would your obituary say?

I would rather there be a great quote instead of something cheesy about being a "mom, daughter, wife...etc."

24. What is your greatest regret?

I don't regret anything. Without things happening like they have, my present and future would be forever changed.

25. How would you describe standing on a beach looking at the ocean?

It's the most serene, awe-inspiring, and glorious thing ever.

26. What is your favorite outfit to wear?

I like to keep it simple with a comfortable pair of jeans, t shirt, and a cute sweater.

27. What do you do when you are driving alone in a car?

I turn up the music really loudly and sing at the top of my lungs like no one's listening.

Love and Friendship Questions

28. If a friend is being bullied or harassed by someone, what do you do?

Try to get my friend out of that situation as best as possible.

29. Reflect on the characteristics of your best friend. What makes him or her so special?

He is a genuine, one of a kind person. We both feel the same way when it comes to our emotions and he's always there for me.

30. Has anyone close to you passed away?

My grandpa passed away earlier this year. It's little things that spark his absence in my life. I received my annual birthday card from Grandma this year and started to tear up because the familiar "Grandpa Sands" was missing next to her name. It's hard, but I know he's in a better place now.

31. Describe a time you fell in love.

I am continuously falling in love with Chase with each day that goes by. We've known each other for almost 13 years, but yet still learn and grow from each other as every day goes by.

32. Can you keep secrets? Describe a time you didn’t.

Yes, I can. I'm sure there have been times that I've broken the trust to not keep a secret, but for the most part I'm the friend that everyone can count on to keep my mouth shut. I don't think it's my business to share their personal life with others.

33. How do you show your love for others?

A lot of different ways. Small acts of kindness like phone calls, texts, and calls. Being there for a loved one when they need a shoulder to lean on. With Chase, it's keeping things new and fresh by leaving random love notes in his lunch, or picking Starbucks up for him when I know he's had a crappy day.

34. What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

The kindness that Minnie and Randy (Jeff's parents) treated me with was amazing. They let me live with them for a year when I was attending Saddleback so that I could save money to rent a room on my own.

35. If you could become anyone’s friend that you want, who would you choose?

I'm not saying I would like to become friends with Zooey Deschanel necessarily, but I would like the chance to meet her to see if we were compatible.

36. Are you the type of person with lots of friends or just a few close ones?

Just a few close ones. I don't like the amount of drama that ensues with a big group of friends. I enjoy being a recluse for the most part and knowing that I have just a few good friends to go to.

37. What is one quality you admire most in others?

Intelligence...and people who use it.

38. Do you prefer to be with those who are younger or older than you are?

The age doesn't matter, it's how mature that person happens to be.

39. If you could ask me one question, and I had to answer you truthfully, what would you want to know?

If you could do it all over again, would you?

40. What is the meanest thing you have ever done to someone?

When Jeff and I started to like each other he was dating a girl who I became friends with (mostly because she was so clingy, he never got alone time unless I hung out with her and had girl's night). He had tried to break up with her multiple times, but she always pulled the "suicide" card and threatened to end her life if he ended it. The summer we started to "date" she was away in Thailand visiting family. I felt horrible about it, and I had to face her when she came back to let her know what had happened.

41. Who is one friend from your past you want to reconnect with?

There was one person I wanted to reconnect with-a best friend from middle school-but she was visiting California recently and blew me off the whole week she was here, but still managed to see a mutual guy friend of ours. It's just not meant to be I suppose.

42. When did you kiss for the first time and what was it like?

My first real kiss was my freshman year of high school. I was dating this guy named Chris Mathis who was lead singer of a band and played drums in the school band. I couldn't believe he liked me. But everytime he tried to kiss me I would back away because his breath was awful. When we finally did kiss it was awkward and the stench of his breath was such a huge turn off that I broke up with him that night over the phone. Very classy...I know.

43. Describe an activity that you think is truly romantic.

Off roading up Saddleback Mountain with Chase. We listen to music, talk, and go to the top to lay in the bed of his truck and look at the stars and city lights.

44. If you were to write a love note to your sweetheart, what would it say?

What wouldn't it say?

45. When you are in trouble, whom do you call for help?

Chase or Timmy.

46. Who are the people you love the most?

My family.

Worldly Questions

47. If you could speak any language, what would it be and why?

I remember bits and pieces of French, but wish I could speak it fluently. I think it's a beautiful language. Though, I should learn to speak Spanish because it'd be beneficial living in California.

48. If you had to pick one place in your town to bring a tourist, where would you go?

I'd take them to all the beachy cities. My personal favorite is San Clemente. Or, if they were really lucky, I'd take them to the secret beach.

49. What is the one cause that you feel most passionate about?

It's a tie between environmental and animal causes.

50. If you lived in the pioneer days, would you have traveled west or stayed put in the east?

Travel west of course!

51. Which is your favorite non-profit organization? What do you do to help them?

I think they're all great, but I haven't done anything to contribute...except help out at a local animal shelter sometimes and recycle.

52. If you could travel to space, would you go?

I was watching the Discovery Channel the other day and they've got this plane ride you can take that allows you to reach "zero gravity" run by the Zero G Corporation. I think I'd like to experience that first and then see if I could handle the travel to space. In theory, it sounds fantastic and fun.

53. If you could move anywhere, where would you go and why?

I would like to move to the midwest to be closer to family, but Chase isn't ready for that kind of move away from his home state. Fully understandable!

54. Would you want to travel the world on a boat in the sea?

As long as my love was by my side, yes. That would be such an amazing experience!

55. When you travel away from home, do you miss it?

Yes. I miss my kitties, my daily routines, and my familiar and comfortable bed.

56. What is the greatest crisis we face as a world?

Which one to choose...I think between another Great Depression, another World War, and environmental catastrophes, we're pretty much doomed.

57. Describe your favorite vacation.

Chase and I got a cabin a couple years ago at Big Bear. It was so cozy and charming. We snowboarded for 2 days straight, and relaxed with board games and movies we had brought for the evening. It was such a great getaway.

58. If you could write your own bill of rights, what would you include?

I would include some clarification of a few things like religion and marriage so that some fundamentalist groups could not define those institutions based on their beliefs, when a country allows more than one religion. (I agree with Mom's answer)

59. What is going on today in the world that affects you the most?

Right now it's the war in Afghanistan. I have a friend who recently deployed, yet again, and it scares me to death.

Health Questions

60. What bad habit would you be willing to give up if it guaranteed you would live to be 100?

None. I don't think I would like to live that long.

61. What is your favorite thing to eat?

Sushi. It's a rare meal with us because it's expensive, but it makes it that much more amazing when we finally do eat it!

62. What is one food that you will not eat?

Oysters. I think they're disgusting and slimy and make me want to gag.

63. What is your favorite way to exercise?

Hiking or running.

64. If you had to choose to be blind or deaf, which one would you pick?

Blind. I wouldn't want to experience the world without the sounds around me and music.

65. Have you ever been to a hospital? Why?

Yes. For a broken ankle, being sick, and to visit loved ones.

66. If you could have someone else’s face, whom would you choose?

No one. I like my face. But I wouldn't mind having another person's complexion!

67. Describe a vivid dream you have had.

I had a very vivid dream of grandpa coming to me and telling me it was his time to go. He was in his recliner, but on the back porch of the blue house looking into the woods.

68. What physical feature do you least like about yourself?

My complexion.

69. Would you want to know the exact day of your death?

No way.

Work and Career Questions

70. If you had to pick one hero, who would it be?

I honestly don't have one.

71. If you could pick one thing to change about your school or job, what would it be?

To have a job or a school.

72. What are you most proud of?

My independence.

73. Are you the kind of person who wants to be the big fish in a little pond or the little fish in the big pond?

The little fish with a big heart.

74. Describe a time when you wanted to quit, but didn’t.

I wanted to quit playing WoW on numerous occasions when I just couldn't seem to do anything right. But I didn't and am now a level 80. Woot Woot.

75. Mention one goal. When you hope to accomplish it?

I would like to find an organazation that I am passionate for and get more involved. Anytime in my life, really.

76. Is competition good for you?

I'm not very competitive.

77. If you could study anything you wanted in school, what would you want to learn more about?

Forestry or anthropology.

78. What is something you learned in school that you think is useless to you today?

Economy. Our end of the year project was to make a financial plan for how you would live when you were on your own. I did mine based on how I lived at the time because I did live on my own. She said it wasn't accurate and I got an 89.6% in the class. FAIL.

79. When someone fails at something, what should he or she do?

Don't give up and try again.

80. If you could pick any career, what would you want to be?

I'd love to be a forest ranger or an excavationist. Something outdoors that would keep me active.

81. Do you want to be famous?

Not at all.

Entertainment Questions

82. If you could become a character in a TV show or movie, who would you chose to be?

Lois Lane because I love Clark Kent and Superman!

83. What is your favorite outside activity?

Hiking or going to the beach.

84. What is your favorite holiday and how do you celebrate it?

85. What is your favorite sport? Do you play or just watch?

I love football and used to play every weekend with friends. We also used to do mud football tournaments when it rained. And I watch as well.

86. Have you been on a roller coaster? What did it feel like?

Of course! It feels like you're flying and weightless. I love the feeling.

87. If you had to spend a day not using any technology, what would you do?

Read a book with the kitties curled up on me.

Tradition

1. Fictional characters. Who was your favorite when you were a child. And now?

I always loved Nancy Drew when I was younger. She was so sure of herself for a young woman. I secretly wished I could start solving mysteries like her. Now, I would sadly say Bella from the Twilight Series. I love her character and the love she has for Edward.

2. Name a movie scene you love.

There's a scene in The Fountain with a tree of life that is surrounded with a golden luminescent sheen. The graphics throughout the whole movie blew me away.

3. If you could adopt a highway, what would you name it?

Annabel Lee Highway...named after the poem written by Edgar Allan Poe.

4. Name a scene in a book that you love.

I love every scene that is described in John Steinbeck novels. He describes and personifies California like no other.

5. What are some funny incidents from your life, that you can never live down?

I am a very gullible person and people tend to mess with me because of it. I'll just leave it at that!

(What happened to 6?)

7. Have you ever invented anything? It doesn’t have to be mechanical!

I've "invented" recipes and some drinking games.

8. Name a vivid childhood memory.

I remember my dad letting me accompany him for a day when he was the maintenance guy for Pickwick Place apartments. I felt like "one of the guys" because I got to help him pull up carpet and use a carpet cutter. We even found some money!

9. What sort of food did you grow up with?

From what I remember it was a lot of Southern style food. Fried chicken, beans, casseroles, and then the simpler things like hamburger helper, meatloaf, and macaroni and cheese.

10. Where are your family’s roots?

My mom was born in Kentucky, but I'm not sure about my biological dad. Mostly from the South...

11. What smells do you love?

There are so many! The lingering smell of rain after a downpour, burning leaves, the crisp smell of autumn, clean laundry, Chase, new pages of a book-and old for that matter, gasoline, auto shops, woods, nature, fresh baked bread and cookies, gardenia and plumeria, cinnamon, cilantro...

11. What one thing in your life did you do that nobody else understood but that you are happy you did.

I'm glad that I have stayed true to myself and not given into other people's judgments against me. I have dated girls and find nothing wrong with same sex relationships or same sex marriages for that matter.

13. Just pick an older relative from your past, and describe them best you can.

Mike Roser. He had been my dad's best friend since they were kids. He, like my dad, was very tall, lean, and was very caring. I remember once proposing to him when I was little. Also, though I'm not sure why, I always called him by his first and last name. He was never "Mike" but always Mike Roser.

14. Do you know anyone famous?

I was acquaintances with Sasha Cohen the figure ice skater. She attended the same high school as me for a short amount of time, and we occasionally studied together in the library.

15. Has anyone done anything recently that hurts?

Lately it seems as though the only person I can count on is Chase. My friends, though very nice, are very flaky, and I seem to get stood up a lot or even just used to help them when it's convenient. I'm tired of people asking me to do things for them just because I don't have a job. This doesn't mean that I don't do other things. It does hurt, however; I do rather enjoy being a recluse with Chase in our own little world.

16. Has anyone done something overly kind lately?

My mother, her husband Morgan, my aunt Martha, and her boyfriend Jeff all recently bought me a sweet ass bike to replace my previous cruiser. I love it!

17. What is your favorite beverage, outside water?

There are different categories for this question. If we're talking non-carbonated it would be sweet tea, but not the kind you buy...the kind made at home with a ton of sugar. Carbonated would have to be Barqs Red Cream Soda (which I still have never seen in California, sadly). And for alcohol it would be Jagermeister or Margaritas.

18. If you could invent a pie, what would be in it and what would be the name of that pie?

It would consist of graham cracker crust, with hardened chocolate coating the crust, then banana pudding mixed with cool whip as a filling, cool whip on top of that, with fresh strawberries and preserve on top, finished off with chocolate drizzles and shavings. The Ultimate Banana Split Pie.

19. You are in marketing at a soda pop corporation. What is the flavor and name of your new product?

I think some sort of cream berry soda would be good...like acai berry, strawberry, and blueberry. I would call it Berry Creamy. I crack myself up.

20. What sort of world mythology is interesting to you?

I love greek mythology. I was so excited to go to school when we were learning about it in high school.

21. What world crisis is most scary to you?

I fear that our economy will hit a new low, worse than the Great Depression.

22. What part of your cultural history has changed in the last few years?

I think for the most part it would be holiday celebrations. Growing up, my family was always near and we always celebrated at the grandparent's "blue house." Now, as an adult living in California, Chase and I celebrate on our own and have started our own traditions.

4. Hang "out of order" signs on things that can't be out of order.

27. While in the shampoo aisle, pretend to be the woman in the Herbal Essence commercials.

28. Dress in costume for no reason.

29. Sit in at the library's "Kid Reading Time". Without a kid.

30. Go to Subway and ask for specific amounts of toppings...ie...I would like two pieces of bell pepper, 1 pickle, 6 shreds of lettuce...

Fragments

My father's hands so strong as they held mine
A life of hard work proven by each line
Look closer and a story will unfold
The pages in a book only I hold
A page was written for each day he lived
Filled with advice and meaning he would give
A chapter was written for each new year
Until he passed and was no longer here
The book now locked away deep in my heart
My memories cherished never to part
His grave a remembrance, his name in bold
Etched into a stone his story now told
"An exceptional brother and greater dad
For the man we lost we are truly sad"

I miss my dad a lot, and though the ending of this isn't exactly the truth (as I never went to his funeral and didn't know he had passed until after)...I finally felt like I could write on paper how I felt.

101 - The Number After 100, Before 102

I'm quite an enigma. So here...read 101 things about me. I know you want to.

1. I played trumpet for 8 years and wish I kept up with it. I was actually quite good and even played in a jazz band for a year. (Even did a solo for Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night in Tunisia")

2. I love decorating and sometimes toy with the idea of being an interior designer. I guess I need to have more faith in myself and commit to doing something with my life!

3. I type 70 wpm. Boo Ya.

4. I am OCD about certain things - mostly things pertaining to my apartment; however, I used to have to check to see if my door was locked 3 times. In my car my drink holder always has to be pushed in.

5. I want to backpack through Europe when I'm older.

6. I think one of my biggest faults is being too self-conscious and putting myself down.

7. I believe in the supernatural and paranormal. I sometimes sense things and also have felt the presence of ghosts.

8. I have lived in California for half of my life, but still refer to Indiana as "home".

9. I miss my dad more than anyone probably knows and still cry a lot about his death.

10. I feel sexiest when my hair is long.

11. I talk to my cat Timone as if he was a person. Chase thinks I'm crazy.

12. We just got a new kitten named Luna. She's adorable, but obnoxious. Typical baby.

13. I don't really have a "style". All the clothes I have are mostly hand-me-downs and I wish I could afford to buy clothes that fit me properly and were more "me"...whatever that is.

14. I laugh at my own jokes.

15. I want to get married on a beach with tiki torches and candles. Simple, cheap, yet perfect in my mind.

16. I love scrap booking. It clears my mind and I hope one day to be able to pass down my scrap books to my kids.

17. I used to pretend to be James Bond with my cousin. We would dress in all black and sing the Mission Impossible song while pointing our fingers like guns around corners of houses.

18. I have known my boyfriend for 12 years now. We met through a mutual friend. I always had a thing for him, but we didn't hit it off until 8 years later.

19. I love music. Love. Love. Love. There's something for every mood.

20. I hate showers, but love baths.

21. I want a Harley. Black and dark purple.

22. I read a book a day. I need some new ones, I'm getting tired of re-reading the ones I have!

23. I wish I had more friends. I don't necessarily want a lot of friends. I just want more close friends that I can rely on.

24. I hate going to movies in the theatre if I can't buy the popcorn. My weakness!

25. I watch Food Network channel a lot and think it would be cool to come up with a recipe to compete with on the challenges.

26. I hate sleeping alone.
